There is much in the way of technology. What was considered the internet on long lost Earth & known as other things in other civilizations has mutated into a very large system known as the GalaxyNet. The GalaxyNet is maintained by many corporate companies and several large governments. Unfortunately the GalaxyNet isn't as accomodating as many would like, hardware & software profiles change slightly from area to area. This has made a market for translation software & hackers.

Many planets have set up broadband communications and many more have set up their own "wireless" communications. The planet that cannot communicate with the rest of the galaxy is seen as non-existant. Planets that rely on ancient communications are dustballs and those that rely upon equipment even personal vidphone 5 years old are considered backwater by the elite.

The majority of personal communication devices include both audio and visual, although they do allow simple audio only communication. The best of these "Vidphones" are collapsable, allowing storage in pockets and other compact areas. Headset devices exist for ease of use around the home and in combat situations. These headsets are currently limited to audio only, but a great effort is being made to allow these to provide audio/visual communications.

datapad      Datapads are in common use throughout the galaxy. They allow everyone the ease of making simple notes throughout the day. Many companies and governments also use them for storing information both vital and trivial as datapads are able to utilize even the best encryption programs.

personal computer      Also available to those who need more computing power are personal computers. These wonders have infiltrated everything from home to the business office. Personal computers have more storage space than datapads and do not rely heavily upon local communication networks. Personal computers allow a being to travel the back alleys of the universe and still be able to take care of all the necessary day to day computing needs.

Spaceports vary throughout the galaxy, although the rating system is fairly standard.
  • Class I (or landing field) starports are simply flat areas for ships to land. There is no control tower, and probably no fueling or repair services.
  • Class II (or limited) starports have a control tower, and possibly refueling and repair services, but very limited facilities at best. (i.e. Mos Eisley had limited services.)
  • Class III (or standard) starports are fully staffed and equipped, and will have refuelling and resupply services, as well as a small shipyard for at least minor repairs. (i.e. Bespin had a standard starport.)
  • Class IV (or stellar) starports can dock almost all classes and sizes of ships, and probably have several shipyards in the immediate area for major repairs and modifications. (Yavin had a stellar class starport during the beginning of the Rebellion.)
  • Class V starports are large and luxurious, with complete storage and repair facilities. These are normally major trade centers. (i.e. Coruscant has several of these types of starports.)
