Hyde's Point, a Town

October 17, 1997

10/17/97 - The night started off fairly well, but we slowed down until Lexie got started. She came up with most of the background for Hyde's Point & then other people grabbed hold of it & we kept going & going. We finished the background along with some rumors tonight & we hope to get started on what businesses are in this town next week.

Here is the map of the town of Hyde's Point that we are currently working on. I am hoping that we will be able to name all the businesses in town and possibly homes and/or boarding houses next week. We decided that the Blue Unicorn would be a part of the town & now it is finely wrapped within the background.

This Port Town should fit along any coast. Hope everyone will have fun with this Port Town :-)

Hyde's Point

Population - Approx. 1300
Walls - stone walls & wooden gates with bronze strapping
Local Goods - clams, fish, lobster
Exports - wool
Imports - wood, iron, copper, fabrics, coal, wine, & glass
Background

The original Blue Unicorn was made out of the prow of Hyde's wrecked ship, until it burned down. The Blue Unicorn has been rebuilt in a different part of time and no longer includes the prow of Hyde's ship
There are several rumors about town, but the cold hard facts include that Hyde's Point was the first to be setteled in the area & the fact that there is a statue of Hyde, the founder of Hyde's Point, made of Unicorn horns that stands in the town square. The statue depicts Hyde as a one eyed old sailor. The myths & rumors however, are quite bountiful -

Unicorns once lived in the area (particularly the nearby woods), but were hunted down by the locals. The spirits of the hunted unicorns now supposedly inhabit the woods nearby. It wasn't bad enough they were hunted down, but they now haunt the woods because they lost their horns which were used to make a statue of Hyde. One of the rumors is that the Hyde himself used the horns to build the statue and serves as a reminder of "wealth is the ultimate goal".
Another rumor is that Hyde liked Unicorns, but his descendants used the Unicorn horns to create the statue of him to remind people of the founder. If Hyde knew, he'd roll over in his grave.
It is rumored that Hyde used to be a privateer and that Hyde's Point might have been a secret privateers' harbor.
Hyde's ship crashed here one stormy night and he decided his sailing days had come to an end and decided to start a town.
Another rumor is that Hyde's privateer ship crashed here one stormy night as he tried to make it into his secret privateer harbor.
